Distributed Safe-Water Infrastructure

Safe water is not a filter problem. It is a system problem.

Smart X develops and operates modular water infrastructure designed to deliver safe water under real-world conditions — with treatment, monitoring, service and accountability built into one operating model.

Field validation with Kenya Red Cross Society — Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kajiado & Garissa, Kenya.

The problem

Installation alone does not create reliable safe water.

Source conditions vary. Chemistry changes. Components wear. Maintenance can be delayed. A treatment unit can perform under controlled conditions and still fail when the complete operating chain is not managed.

Smart X therefore treats safe water as infrastructure: assess the source, configure the treatment, protect the last meter, operate the system and verify what actually happens in the field.

One accountable system

From source-water data to measurable impact.

Every major Smart X subject now has one clear role. Technology treats. Operations keep it working. Evidence defines what can be claimed. Field data measures whether the infrastructure delivers.

01 / AssessSource-water analysis

Measured source conditions define treatment objectives and commissioning requirements.

02 / TreatHydroCharge

Four modular treatment stages configured around measured water conditions.

03 / ProtectFlush System

A separate last-meter layer designed around safe collection and container handling.

04 / OperateWater as a Service

Commissioning, maintenance, consumables, monitoring and defined service responsibility.

05 / VerifyEvidence & Impact

Testing, operating data and field outcomes remain separated by evidence status.

HydroCharge

Four-stage modular treatment architecture.

The platform is standardized; the treatment configuration follows the measured source-water profile. Design parameters are not presented as field-validated outcomes.

HydroCharge four-stage treatment architecture
Protected modular configurationSource water → controlled treatment → verified output
Stage 1

Pre-Filtration

Reduces sediment and suspended solids to protect downstream treatment.

Stage 2

Water Chemistry Conditioning

Moves source-water chemistry into the required operating window.

Stage 3 · Smart X engineering

Final Filtration

Uses source-specific media inside Smart X’s proprietary housing and Flow Control architecture.

Stage 4

Disinfection

Completes the treatment chain before storage and distribution.

Evidence Before Scale

Evidence with its boundaries intact.

Smart X separates independent analysis, controlled testing, engineering design basis, testing targets and field verification still pending. Baseline data is never presented as treatment validation.

CONTROLLEDTest results are classified separately from independent verification
PENDINGField performance is reported only after operational verification

Evidence boundary: controlled testing with incomplete provenance is disclosed as controlled testing — never as independent verification. Full results, methods and limitations are maintained on the Evidence & Performance page.

Kenya Field Validation

Three pilot deployments. Three different water realities.

The Kenya programme is designed as more than a list of sites. It is a three-pilot field-validation journey across different Kenyan contexts: Mukuru Kwa Njenga in Nairobi, where the system will be installed at the school while also serving a limited part of the surrounding community; Kajiado County, representing a more semi-arid county setting; and Garissa County, reflecting a more water-stressed regional environment. Together, the pilots are intended to test how HydroCharge can be adapted, operated and supported across very different real-world conditions.

Water as a Service

Responsibility continues after installation.

Depending on contract, Smart X can carry defined responsibility for source assessment, commissioning, operator training, monitoring, maintenance, consumables, calibration, service response and performance reporting.
